8. Vampire Weekend - Blue CD-RProof of the slow dissolution of the record industry, and the power of blog-hype, is the presence of this sort-of unreleased debut EP by these local Paul Simon-fans. Stylish and over-educated, they take Simon’s (and David Byrne’s) African rhythmic influence to create happy (a deeply uncool concept in indie-rock), punky two-minute-pop songs that still can’t help but make me walk with a smile in my step (try and stay stoic during “Cape Cod Kwassa”. They also rhyme ‘Louis Vuitton’ with ‘Reggeaton’: skills!).
